I recently changed jobs! I find moving roles one of the toughest points in my professional life as it’s such a massive decision to make and ultimately it’s only you that can make the decision – trying to balance up the pros and cons of why you choose to leave one company and what draws you to the next.
It can be hard to take a leap of faith away from what you’ve grown to know and understand in one business into a new business in which you don’t fully understand the culture or how things work. It’s also a huge upheaval to leave behind the people you’ve built close relationships with and step Into an unknown of who you’ll work with in future. Will we get on with each other? Will I make new relationships? Will I fit in? Perhaps for some people this is exciting, but for me it’s incredibly nerve wracking and I think that’s because it’s so important for me to feel I fit in at my place of work and want to enjoy what I do while at the same time bring my experience and expertise to be able to make a true difference. It’s a real need of belonging and fulfilment that I strive for.
So when a new opportunity presented itself to me I spent a great deal of time reflecting on whether I was feeling fulfilled in my current role and if I was thriving or whether this something new might be just what I needed to push me to the next stage in my career.
My work is built on strong relationships not only because I have a career in HR, but because that’s how I am as a person… so the mere thought of walking away from my peers and my team filled me with such sorrow it almost blinded me to the opportunity of moving on to something new. However taking the time to truly reflect on the work I was doing and asking myself whether I was truly fulfilled made me realise I needed to be brave and take a leap of faith.
Sometimes you have to know when to quit to open up a door to your next stage of growth… and quitting is definitely not failure if you know that by quitting you’ve got a greater opportunity for success.
So far, this leap of faith feels likes it payed off… a few weeks into my new role with a new team in a new business and its feeling great. A new challenge is what we need at times, to reinvigorate our energy, our passion, our enthusiasm, and our creativity.
Sometimes we have to take bold and brave decisions to make our dreams a reality!
Always remember to Dream Big … but Believe even Bigger !! You got this !!
