Become a visionary

Turning our Dreams into reality requires us to build a vision.

I’m not sure about you, but I have many dreams, in fact, I could probably describe myself and as a bit of a ‘daydreamer’. To make these dreams a reality, it takes action, real life action.. and creating a vision can help. But what is the difference between a dream and a vision? Dreams alone don’t always have the substance to become a reality, but build a plan around a dream, and that becomes real – that becomes a vision that you can make happen.

Over this last year, with the limitations we have all faced during multiple lockdowns and the world relying on virtual interactions, I have been trying to find ways to keep my motivation high. I’ve had the dream of spending time on creating my own vision board for a while now and never gotten around to it, or really taking action to make it happen. So when I came across a virtual masterclass for creating a vision board I decided I had nothing to lose by signing up. I did for a moment think, “will it be any good doing it virtually?”, and “how will I feel connected to the other people in the masterclass?” … but even with these doubts I saw no reason to not at least give it a try.

On a bright Saturday morning a few weeks ago, I got myself set and ready for my creative experience, I had been gathering old magazines and collected up some old arts and crafts things that I had stuffed in cupboards, and excitedly logged into zoom with my collection of goodies which I hoped would turn into something inspirational.

The experience did not disappoint, in fact, it went beyond my expectations. Being guided through a series of very calming and thought provoking exercises to drill into my core values helped to set the scene ahead of getting stuck into the creative experience of building my board. Even the time spent gradually cutting out words and images that inspired and lifted me was a therapeutic and enjoyable part of the experience. Gradually during the 3 hour workshop my board began to take shape and little by little became a beautiful visual representation of my dreams, which made me smile when I looked at it and gave me a sense of confidence in knowing that I can turn my dreams into a reality. A fascinating addition was the opportunity to look at the subconscious colour schemes built into my board and I learned that the whites, pinks and blues that I had used indicated; peace, purity, clarity, compassion, power and patience.

My vision board experience was so enlightening that I decided to invest in a frame and have my board somewhere in my home so that I can see it everyday as a reminder of how I will achieve my dreams.

So, why am I sharing this with you? Well, it is a wonderful thing to have dreams, but bringing those dreams to life is even more wonderful, and sometimes it is hard to work out how to go about making things happen. For some people it might be making written lists and plans, for others, it might be about setting goals that have timeframes and actions. But for me, as someone who has a creative mindset and enjoys visual experiences, the idea of a vision board really works.
